The Fall of the House of Usher

‘Ethelred lifted up his stick and hit the animal on the head. It fell down and died. But before it died, it screamed. The noise was loud and terrible, and Ethelred had to cover his ears.’
Again, I stopped reading. It was sure that I heard a long screaming sound. The sound was not in my mind, from the story. It came from inside the house. I said nothing, though, because I did not want to excite Usher. Could he hear the sounds too? I was not sure, so I continued to read.
‘After Ethelred killed the animal, the metal sign on the wall fell to the floor with a loud ringing sound.’
As I heard the words “ringing sound,” I heard a similar sound inside the house. I felt terrible fear. This time I was sure. Someone was screaming and hitting metal.

To be continued ...
